Comprehensive Long Range Plan
This is another issue I have fought for since soon after joining the Council. The idea was shot down many times a being unnecessary and too expensive. Finally, with the help of many, many residents calling for more proactive planning, the Council agreed to include money for a new comprehensive planning process in the 2007 budget. While we would be much better off if we had started this off earlier, it is always the right time to do the right thing.
For approximately the last year, the town's Long Range Plan Advisory Committee
has worked with our consulting firm, Studio Cascade, to solicit public input
and participation in creating a plan to chart the future of Southern Pines
for the next twenty years. Now nearing the final draft stages, the plan, when
adopted, will ensure Southern Pines has a current document- one formed with
substantial public input and an open process- that will help guide decisions
and programs moving forward.
