AC-47 "Spooky"

Gunship

(Spooky (SN 43-16368) tail number 368. According to his log, my father flew this aircraft several times)

(Another look at 368)

(Spooky (SN 44-76606) tail number 606. According to his log, my father flew this aircraft several times)

(Spooky (SN 43-48801) tail number 801. According to his log, my father flew this aircraft several times) This photo appears to have been shot from the window of another AC-47.

(Spooky (SN 43-48423) tail number 423. According to his log, my father flew this aircraft several times)

(Spooky (SN 44-76625) tail number 625. According to his log, my father flew this aircraft twice)

I can't identify the Spooky in the foreground, but the one in the back is 368. Notice in the center back an F-4 with its drag chute deployed. I'm told this is in Udorn.

(Spooky (SN 43-??516) tail number 516. According to his log, my father flew this aircraft several times)

(Spooky (SN 44-76354) tail number 354. According to his log, my father flew this aircraft several times. Photo Courtesy of Former SSgt Bob Huntley, one of the heroes in maintenance who kept these old birds in the air.)

(Spooky (SN 43-48701) tail number 701. This one is not in my father's log.) "EL" tail letters indicated a 3rd ACS aircraft. This photo appears to have been shot from the window of another AC-47. (Updated 8-09: I received an e-mail from Robert "Buzz Womack, who was Crew Chief of 701 in Bien Thuy from '68-'69. Thanks for the e-mail Buzz!)

(Spooky (SN 43-48263) tail number 263)

Not positive on this one, but it appears to be 44-76606. I can read "06" under the nose

(Unidentified Spookys at Pleiku and maybe some EC's taken from the air in an AC-47)

Not an AC-47. It's EC-47 (43-23882) tail number 882 coming in for a landing. I have a couple photos of a fire truck attending to the left side of this same aircraft. It turns out this was probably the final mission for a crewmember and they were getting a ceremonial "hosing down." For more on EC-47's visit J.C Wheeler's ec47.com Included on the site is a photo of a "crash" of 882.

Too bad he didn't get the tail number in this one. My guess is 368

Possibly the same aircraft as previous picture.

Possibly the same aircraft as previous picture.

My father flew this aircraft several times.
